Home | The
American philosopher and writer Ayn Rand titled one of
her lesser known essays "Philosophy. Who needs
it?" The answer is "we all
do." Every one of us has a
philosophy, even if we haven't chosen it rationally or
don't consciously realize what it is or what its tenets
might be. I am actively interested in philosophy and hope someday to pursue and earn an advanced degree with the objective of teaching at the collegiate level. Up to this point, I consider my primary philosophical influences to have been Aristotle, Hume, Russell, & Rand, taking different elements from each as I found them valuable.. Generally speaking, my metaphysical outlook includes an axiomatic acceptance of the existence of an external, objective reality and the secure foundation of an inductive approach to knowledge based on the axioms of existence and identity. |

The two major sites for Objectivism on the web are ARI, the Ayn Rand Institute, and IOS, the Institute for Objectivist Studies. The first is the "official" site, run by the Institute headed by Rand's designated successor and "heir", Leonard Peikoff. The second is the site run by a "splinter" faction headed by David Kelley. No support of either position is intended by my inclusion of both links.
The political/economic position espoused by Objectivism and Objectivists is laissez-faire Capitalism. The Jefferson School runs a website supporting Capitalism from an Objectivist perspective. Here you can find links to complete works by Ludwig von Mises as well as other economists and philosophers supportive of Capitalism.
Additional information on general philosophy can be found at Garth Kemerling's Philosophy pages, and Stephen Downe's Guide to the Logical Fallacies.
